           ARPA

The Amazon Region Protected Areas (ARPA) program is a sweeping safeguard for the Amazon rain forest. It will ensure the survival of Earth's richest biological treasures. This is a partnership with the Brazilian Government, the Brazilian Biodiversity Fund (FUNBIO), the German Development Bank (KFW), the Global Environmental Facility, Greenspan, WWF, Conservation International, and many others. It's a ten year effort to save an additional 33% of the Amazon rain forest. GO4

THE AMAZON

Amazonia is home to about 400 unique Amerindian cultures and about half of the world's terrestrial species. It also plays a major role in the global water and climate cycle. Over two-thirds of the planet's fresh water is in the Amazon, and one-fifth of the world's oxygen is derived from there. GO4

World's Most Pressing Issue

We are alarmed at the peril to the biosphere and humanity caused by deforestation. Clear-cutting and timber road construction have caused species extinction, soil erosion, flooding, destabilizing climate change, the loss of ecological processes, declining water quality, diminished commercial and sport fisheries, and mud- slides killing countless people.
